Matt Damon has confirmed his involvement in a fifth Bourne movie to E!, following months of speculation that Universal was courting him and director Paul Greengrass for a return to the franchise.
Damon said at a red carpet event, “Paul Greengrass is going to do another one… I just needed him to say yes.”
He also unveiled the release year: 2016.
Greengrass helmed the second and third chapters of the Bourne series, but left series screenwriter (aka ‘architect!’) Tony Gilroy to direct the fourth entry.
Damon also abandoned the series with Greengrass, allowing Jeremy Renner to step in and play a different agent.
Justin Lin was planning on helming a Renner-fronted sequel for Universal, but they obviously had little faith in the continuing saga of chems-hunting amnesiac Aaron Cross.
So returns Damon as Jason Bourne, Greengrass in tow.
Meanwhile, Renner mournfully plays the piano, a single tear rolling down his cheek.
